Abbey Woods Academy ends first week of term on high note with Good Ofsted outcome

We are extremely proud to announce that following its latest Ofsted inspection, Abbey Woods Academy has achieved a Good grade - the first in the academy’s history.

In its latest inspection report, Ofsted says staff at Abbey Woods are determined for all pupils to be aspirational and achieve the best they can, with all leaders working diligently to raise standards.

During their two-day visit on 27 and 28 June, the inspection team found that ‘pupils are happy and motivated to try their best because leaders have created a culture which promotes and celebrates achievement’.

This can be seen in the enthusiastic way children take part in lessons and the wide range of different experiences and activities on offer at Abbey Woods, and the extent to which they look forward to weekly celebration assemblies where their work and achievements are recognised. One parent told inspectors: “The school is such a positive and encouraging environment for my children.”

The report acknowledges the hard work that has gone into improving behaviour at Abbey Woods, and the respectful, positive relationships between the children and staff: “Behaviour in lessons and around the school is calm and orderly. At playtime, pupils are friendly and respectful.”

The report adds: “Pupils appreciate that their teachers know them well and are confident they can report any worries. They know teachers will support them to resolve these. Bullying is not tolerated, and pupils are clear that if it occurs, staff quickly take actions to address it. Consequently, there are very few instances of bullying.”

Commenting on Ofsted’s findings, Headteacher Sophie Charter said:

“This report recognises the tremendous effort everyone has made to ensure Abbey Woods is a place where children grow and thrive – its publication is a very significant moment for our whole school community. This magnificent outcome is down to the hard work and determination of the staff, pupils, and families, and I am immensely proud of what we have all achieved together.”

Anthem CEO Mohsen Ojja, said:

“This outcome marks an exciting new chapter for Abbey Woods and the community it serves. It demonstrates the incredible progress made since the last inspection and sets a strong foundation for further growth and success. I firmly believe that this achievement is just the beginning of a remarkable journey for the academy.

“I have extended the Trust’s gratitude to all the teachers, leaders, and staff who consistently go above and beyond to support our students. Their commitment, passion, and tireless efforts have undoubtedly made a significant impact on the lives of the children at Abbey Woods.”
