Anthem sixth formers celebrate A Level and BTEC success

Students at Anthem’s secondary schools are celebrating after receiving their A Level and BTEC results today.

Teenagers across the country are collecting their results after sitting exams in May and June. Sixth formers have recorded excellent achievements, with the students at Oxford Spires Academy, Queensbury Academy, St Mark’s Academy and The Deepings School adding to this success.

Thanks to the hard work of students and staff, there is lots to celebrate, with many students going on to take up places at university, embark on an apprenticeship, or enter the workplace.

This year has proved exceptional for Anthem, with our hard-working students achieving excellent outcomes across all four sixth forms. Most notably, the value added score for the trust is now +0.50.

This valued added figure shows how much progress A-level students made between the end of Key Stage 4 (GCSEs) and the end of their sixth form studies, compared to similar students in England.

A score above zero means students made more progress, on average, than students across England who got similar GCSEs.

  • Oxford Spires Academy achieved a remarkable progress score of +0.59, placing its sixth form among the top performers nationally. The school’s Maths department also achieved an incredible 11 A*s with 4 A* in Further Mathematics!

  • At St Mark’s Academy, students taking Chemistry, Physics and Spanish have achieved over a grade higher in these subjects than other similar students nationally.

  • Queensbury Academy has also seen an increase in both attainment and progress scores, with standout individual achievements including Oliver Smith, who got A*A*A and is going to Warwick University to study Mechanical Engineering.

  • Along with a 100% pass rate for all courses, almost all subjects at The Deepings have seen a positive progress score, with students exceeding their expected grades. Many have excelled in their self-directed extended project qualification (EPQ).

David Moran, Anthem’s Interim CEO, said:

“Very many congratulations to the Year 13s for their success today. Students and staff have all worked so hard to get here and should be very proud of the results we have seen today.

“We all want to wish our young people the very best in whatever they choose to do next, whether it is higher education, taking up an apprenticeship or starting their career.”

Elma Lawson, Director of Education at Anthem, said:

“I am thrilled that as a trust we have achieved excellent outcomes and great improvements from previous years. Our schools are making significant life changes to the students we serve! Huge congratulations to our secondary headteachers and school leaders. These results are a credit to their infinite commitment to every student in their care.”

A stars: This year's A Level Maths students at Oxford Spires Academy clocked up an 'historic' 15 A* grades between them!
