Kay makes a marathon fundraising effort for Benjamin Adlard pupils

Kay Pluckwell from Benjamin Adlard Primary School will be running the Gainsborough 26‑mile charity marathon route in May.

A nursery playworker at Benjamin Adlard Primary School in Gainsborough has taken on the challenge to run a marathon to raise funds for her pupils.

Miss Kay Pluckwell is now in training to run the Gainsborough Marathon Challenge, a full marathon‑length route around the town, on 22 May.

Miss Pluckwell is raising money for Anthem Aspire, our programme that creates life‑changing opportunities for children to engage in sport, literature, music and the great outdoors through four flagship projects.

The aim of Anthem Aspire is to go beyond classroom learning and focus on the whole child, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to give them experiences that enhance their personal development.

The Anthem Aspire programme recently funded a number of Year 5 pupils from Benjamin Adlard to take part in an Outward Bound trip to Ogwen Cottage in Wales, building up their confidence and self-belief.

Now Miss Pluckwell hopes to raise money to continue to offer opportunities like this to pupils, and supporters are encouraged to get behind her as she prepares for race day.

Kay Pluckwell said: “Taking on this marathon is a huge personal challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges some of our children face every day.

“This run isn’t just about endurance; it’s about showing our pupils what bravery looks like and inspiring them to believe that they too can achieve the impossible.

“I feel incredibly proud to be running for these children – every mile is about raising aspirations and helping to create opportunities that can truly change their lives.”

Luke Lovelidge, headteacher at Benjamin Adlard Primary School, said: “We are so proud of Miss Pluckwell for taking on this inspiring challenge and helping to raise money for our pupils through the Anthem Aspire scheme."
