Oxford Spires students speak up about finding their voice
In this month's Dialogue magazine, published by the English Speaking Union, students and staff from Oxford Spires Academy reflect on what makes the school a worthy ESU Oracy Culture Award winner.
The ESU’s Oracy Culture Award celebrates those schools placing oracy at the heart of their curriculum. Last year this accolade went to the team at Oxford Spires, led by maths teacher Kate Morris and English teacher James Hart.
Judges were particularly impressed with the schools' emphasis on student-to-student coaching, which sees students supporting and encouraging each other through the programme of activities and competitions that make up Oxford Spires' impressive oracy programme.
Talking to Dialogue magazine, students explain how they have found confidence and a sense of community through public speaking.
