Anthem primary schools unite for first ever Literacy Tree quiz

Pupils from Years 3 to 6 put their reading knowledge to the test in a fun, inspiring competition celebrating books, authors, and the joy of reading.
As our primary schools complete their second full year of teaching reading and writing using the Literacy Tree planning, we wanted to celebrate the passion for reading and new knowledge that our broad curriculum has inspired in the students.
We are geographically spread across several locations and our schools don’t get to see each other very often despite studying largely the same curriculum in English, so we designed an opportunity to unite the staff and children and have a little bit of fun with our first Anthem Literacy Tree Quiz.
Each of our schools gathered a team of voracious readers and writers from Years 3 to 6, and they spent the afternoon competing online against their Anthem peers. The quiz consisted of four rounds: ‘Crazy, cute and colourful characters’, ‘Talented authors and illustrators’, ‘The plot thickens’, and ‘Fact or Fiction?’ With a range of questions about our Year 2 to Year 6 texts.
The talents of each school were showcased – some had excellent memories for the fascinating facts and world of information learned from their reading and others were experts on the books and the authors. Every round had a different winner, and it was not obvious who would take the final victory and win the Literacy Tree trophy.
The staff and children had a fantastic time, coming together as a reading community inspired us all. One teacher shared: “It was great to see the pupils talking about the wide range of books that they have read, and you could see the glow of pride when the younger children could answer questions that the older children were not familiar with. The children were so engaged and enthusiastic!”
Our 2025 Literacy Tree trophy winners are Gladstone Park Primary School, who were thrilled to receive it and the generous book parcel sent by Literacy Tree to support the event.
A pupil from the Gladstone team said: “The quiz was great, with so many questions, it was intriguing to remember all the books we have read. It was so exciting to have won because of our good memories. I felt so happy.”
We are grateful to Literacy Tree for their generosity in supporting the event, but also for igniting a passion for reading in our schools. We are looking forward to doing it again next year!
